The Pope on Gay Marriage

The Pope is naturally an expert on gay marriage. I mean he lives with a whole lot of men you know. Apparently he’s not paying attention though. His significant experience with sex and family life makes him well qualified to make insightful comments like:

The family, based on the marriage of a man and a woman […] is not a simple social convention, but rather the fundamental cell of every society. Consequently, policies which undermine the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity itself. The family unit is fundamental for the educational process and for the development both of individuals and states. Hence there is a need for policies which promote the family and aid social cohesion and dialogue.

This is of course a huge load of steaming horseshit.

The Catholic patriarchy is obsessed with sex – they’re a bunch of sexually frustrated and dysfunctional old men. Sex has only one purpose, make babies. Actually, I think they’re just envious of all the fun everyone else have. I sometimes hear religious fundamentalists complain over how sex-focused society is. I find the only people obsessing over sex is them, not society. Society has gotten over the taboo decades ago. Time to catch up!

Maybe it’s time the guy with the funny hat gained some respect for other human beings? Since when does love between two adult humans – of any gender – “threaten human dignity”? Seriously? … and “the future of humanity itself”?`That’s absurd. The world is overpopulated. A few less child-producing couples are not a problem, and I don’t even know if this affects population growth much at all.

He also emphasize the importance of the family unit. There is no reason why a gay couple cannot have a functional family unit. So even if the family unit is as important to society as he claims, it does not automatically follow that the family need to consist of two adults of different gender. Gender is irrelevant, there aren’t even two distinct genders anyway. The gender binary is an outdated view that these people seem to have an irrational attachment to. But of course, to maintain the patriarchy with all their gold and glitter, one need to separate the holy men from those icky women-things.

No, do something good for humanity, stay away from the Catholic Church. The Catholic patriarchy is the threat to human dignity, society and – if everyone did their celibacy thing – the future of the human race.
