Welcome to the Theocracy

So, I do try to respect people’s right to their personal beliefs. The key word here being personal. In turn, I do not want some group’s collective beliefs imposed on the rest of us. That is, them not respecting my personal beliefs in return. Unfortunately too many religious organisations are to dense to understand this mutual respect thingy. I don’t know, I suppose it is because they think they have some absolute truth that somehow puts them in a special position.

One organization that is incredibly bad with this is the Catholic Church. I have met many nice people who are Catholics, but the church they belong to is run by a bunch of misogynistic and *phobic old men. They seem to think the ultimate utopia is a Catholic theocracy – probably like in the old days when any opposition could be burned at the stake. Theocracies do not work. We have a few Muslim ones around to prove that point.

In the meantime the Catholic patriarchy seem to think it is their business to impose their dogma on the rest of us, and boldly investigate us to make sure we live up to their inhumane standards. In other words: They are a bunch of arrogant assholes too. Now they’re looking into the Girl Scouts. They’re even deluded enough to call it an “official inquiry” as if they have any authority in the matter. What is even worse, the Girl Scouts actually wants to comply with the inquiry.

“We’ve had a strong relationship with the Catholic Church for 98 years,” said Girl Scouts spokeswoman Michelle Tompkins. “We don’t expect it to change.”

Actually, you should change that. The Girl Scouts has shown itself to be an organisation that empowers young women in a very good way. This relationship to a patriarchal and dysfunctional organisation is troubling, as is plainly evident by this inquiry in the first place. The problem the Catholic Church has with the Girl Scouts seems to be that they do empower young women.

Critics of the Girl Scouts contend their materials shouldn’t have any links to groups like the Sierra Club, Doctors Without Borders and Oxfam, or other groups that support family planning and contraception. Other critics are unhappy that the American Girl Scouting organization is a member of an international scouting association that supports contraception access.

The sexually dysfunctional Catholic leadership is obsessing over sex – again. It is their recurring theme after all. Outside the porn industry, there are none so obsessed about sex as the fundamentalist religious institutions. This is one of the greater paradoxes in our modern society. I think I prefer the porn industry. At least they are honest about it.

The Girls Scout organisation is well advised to distance itself from such organisations as the Catholic Church if it wants to continuing being a positive influence in the life of young women. They do an important job trying to correct the neglect of generations of ignorant religious dogma our society in part suffers from.
