The media is currently full of people with opinions about feminism, like this pieces in Time, but little or no knowledge of the history of feminism and what feminism is in terms of its diversity of ideas and approaches. Feminism is constantly presented as a monolith, constructed as needed by cherry picking whatever suits the critic. Feminism is anything but.
Most people who know a bit about feminist history know that feminism came in waves. In addition there are several branches and off-shoots of feminism, like for instance queer theory. Sure, there are bad off-shoots too, off-shoots that hate men or anything they deem tainted by “maleness”, but they are not the norm.
Christina Hoff Sommers likes to pretend she’s a feminist while being incredibly anti-feminist at the same time. Surprise surprise, the dudebros love her for it. Here’s a video response to one of her in-support-of-gamergate videos. It’s hilarious! If you want more entertainment, the comment section is full of ad hominem attacks on the guy who made […]
The facebook page “Lesbians and Feminists Against Transphobia” posted an email they received on their page. It was an email from a feminist cis woman asking about trans women. I’ll try to split up the email and respond to each part of it. The email is quoted with the permission of the author.

Today I watched the 8th episode of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. The show is excellent, don’t get me wrong, and this episode titled “Sisters of the Sun” […]
I’m not sure when this happened, but I recently discovered that some of the videos from this year’s Women in Secularism conference have been published on CFI’s YouTube channel and on the Women in Secularism website. I’m embedding two of my favourites, but you should watch them all!
I feel sorry for my friends who work for Center for Inquiry (CFI), and when I say I will not support CFI it is not because of them. It is not their fault the leadership of CFI are cowards that refuse to take a stand against the sexist bullshit going on in the skeptics movement. […]
Anita Sarkeesian’s first video in her series about the representation of women in video games. This video explores how the Damsel in Distress became one of the most widely used gendered cliché in the history of gaming and why the trope has been core to the popularization and development of the medium itself. As a […]
It’s not news that there are people that deny the existence of every day sexism. There are always privileged people who deny the existence of oppression they do not face themselves. Here’s a copy of a letter published in The New York Times in 1906 written by a woman who responds to a man denying […]
